Seven trans protesters were criminally charged in Johnson County, Iowa for participating in a peaceful protest on The University of Iowa campus on October 16, 2023.

The involved law enforcement is The University of Iowa Police Department and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Johnson County profited a minimum of $3000 from plea agreement court fees alone for a peaceful protest where there no violence by protest (only by police) and there was no property damage.

Tara McGovern’s trial began on Tuesday, March 12 and they were acquitted (found not guilty by a unanimous jury) on both charges on Wednesday, March 13.

McGovern is in meetings discussing a possible first amendment retaliation.
